Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - For the "Earth Hour" light-off campaign, it will be dark this Saturday in numerous places in Baden-Württemberg.
According to the organizers, more than 140 south-west municipalities are taking part in the climate protection campaign, including large ones such as Stuttgart, Mannheim, Karlsruhe and Freiburg as well as many smaller municipalities in various districts.
With the "Earth Hour", the environmental foundation WWF wants to draw attention to the threats posed by climate change.
At 8.30 p.m., the lights are to be switched off for an hour around the globe - for example in Stuttgart at the Old Castle and the TV tower or on the Karlsruhe Tower.
Outside of Baden-Württemberg, there will be darkness for an hour at Neuschwanstein Castle, Cologne Cathedral and Brandenburg Gate, among other places.
A good six months before the federal election and the upcoming state elections, the action should also be understood as a demand on politics, said a WWF spokesman in Berlin.
In times of the corona pandemic, WWF recommends spending “Earth Hour” at home and following the action on social networks.
The idea for Earth Hour first came up 14 years ago in Australia.
