An American autistic child suffocated while eating chicken at school, and his parents received 2.2 billion won in compensation.

According to ABC and the United States, the Palm Beach County School District's board of directors has decided to pay a settlement of $2 million (approximately 2.2 billion won) to parents of autistic students who died from being choked while eating chicken nuggets.

School districts in the United States are the administrative units responsible for running public schools.

Earlier, on August 13 last year, Kedar Williams, 19, who attended Dwyer High School in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, was choked while eating chicken nuggets and was taken to a nearby hospital, but died.

In addition to payments to parents, the Palm Beach County School District has decided that teachers and staff will take a special curriculum named after the victim.

Williams, who suffers from autism, complains of his usual speech and frequent choking when eating.

As a result, Williams had to be assigned an exclusive helper when eating, but it was pointed out that the problem occurred because the school had insufficient staff to have the helper in charge of two students.

At the time of the accident, the helper was caring for another student, and Williams suffocated after swallowing a chicken nugget that was too large.
