Hanover (dpa) - The travel company Tui supports the corona test obligation for flight passengers before returning to Germany.

"Vaccination and testing are the most effective ways to fight pandemics and thus also to return to more freedom," said Tui boss Fritz Joussen on Friday.

"We will offer the tests to the returnees as agreed and make them possible at the holiday destination," said Joussen on Friday.

In view of the corona pandemic, flight passengers should generally have to be tested before taking off to Germany.

The obligation to test should come into force on the night from Monday to Tuesday.

Initially, it was planned that the new, stricter requirements would come into force on Sunday night.

In order to give more time for the preparation, the start date had been postponed, as Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) said on Friday.

According to Joussen, Tui wants to expand the test options in its own hotels and Robinson Clubs within a few days.

The travel company has already made experiences with it in the Canary Islands.

"If testing is the prerequisite for gradually giving back more freedoms, then we should go this way - also for hotels, restaurants, cafes and cultural establishments in Germany," said the Tui boss.

In the winter months and spring, Tui mainly flies to the Canary Islands and destinations in the Mediterranean, such as Mallorca.
