According to the Egyptian Ministry of Transport, preliminary investigations revealed that an unidentified person turned off the emergency braking system of a train, and the dangerous behavior caused the two trains to collide.

  It is reported that at noon that day, during the 157 luxury train from Luxor to Alexandria passing between Malaga and Tahta station, the emergency braking system of some carriages was turned on by an unidentified person, causing the train to stall.

The 157th train collided with the tail of another 709th Aswan train bound for Cairo that was parked on the railway, causing the two carriages of the 709 train to roll over and derail, and the head and the power car of the 157 train to roll over and derail.
