March 26, 2021 Two newborn girls are already born with antibodies against Coronavirus.

Anna

, born on March 9th and

Valentina

, born on March 16th, are daughters of two doctors from Padua.

Valeria Bernardi, a 37-year-old gynecologist and Anna Parolo, a 36-year-old immunologist, gave birth to their daughters Anna and Valentina, after receiving the vaccine against Covid-19 in the third trimester of pregnancy.

The

company Ulss 6 of Padua

gave the news

on Facebook.

"The two girls are the first in Italy in which antibodies to neonatal blood have been isolated at birth" underlined Dr. Gianfranco Juric Jorizzo, head of the team of the Prenatal Medicine Service.

"International studies, to date, have been based solely on antibodies from the umbilical cord" continued Dr. Jorizzo.

"The studies are limited, but they agree in suggesting that there are no side effects on the mother and the fetus. Vaccination could therefore be indicated, even in pregnancy, in situations with risk factors, as suggested by the Italian Gynecological Societies", he continues Jorizzo.

"Potential risks and benefits must be assessed on a case-by-case basis and discussed with your gynecologist so that the expectant mother can make an informed choice. Infection with respiratory complications from Sars-Cov-2 can pose a serious danger to the pregnant woman and the newborn baby." .

Both health professionals, who had never been infected with the virus, "

voluntarily underwent

the first dose of vaccine

in early

January and

,

three weeks later

,

the second

. Regular course for both pregnancies - added the company. health - the two ladies did not report any side effects after inoculation of the vaccine. The girls, who weighed about 3 kilos at birth, are well, are at home and are exclusively breastfed ".

When, at the end of December 2020, the vaccination campaign against Covid-19 begins, the two mothers are offered the opportunity to get vaccinated as health professionals.

Valeria and Anna are therefore among the first pregnant women to be vaccinated in Italy

.

'' I am happy that my Valentina has antibodies against Coronavirus and therefore is the bearer of a great message of hope - says mother Anna Parolo - The health of the newborn depends mainly on its innate immunity and on maternal antibodies transmitted transplacental during the pregnancy''.

"It will be interesting in the future to understand if the passage of these antibodies following maternal vaccination against Sars-Co-V-2 can protect the newborn - said Dr. Kimta Ngaradoumbe Nanhornguè, specialist of the Prenatal Diagnosis Service of ULSS. 6 Euganea di Padova - as happens following vaccinations against diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis. In this case it should be defined whether there is an ideal phase of pregnancy for vaccination. ''

In the

world

, the first recognized case of a newborn born with antibodies against the Sars-CoV-2 was that of a girl born in the United States, in South Florida, in mid-March. The mother, a health worker, was vaccinated against Covid-19 in the 36th week while she was pregnant. Three weeks later she gave birth to a healthy baby girl with antibodies against Coronavirus.
