Potsdam (dpa / bb) - Brandenburg's Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke (SPD) has welcomed the planned comprehensive corona test obligation for entry by plane.

"It is very good that the federal government has quickly and consistently complied with the demands of Brandenburg and many other federal states," said Woidke on Thursday of the German press agency.

"We cannot allow the virus - possibly even with the dangerous Brazilian mutation - to be imported from vacation areas to Brandenburg."

Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) and the state heads of government had decided that in view of the global pandemic, the federal government should stipulate a general compulsory corona test before departure as an entry requirement for flights to Germany.

The duty should apply from Sunday at midnight, it said on Thursday from the Federal Ministry of Health.

Woidke had warned Mallorca of a “virus breeding ground” because the Balearic island is no longer a corona risk area and no PCR test is required for the return journey from there.
