Schwabstedt (dpa / lno) - Around two and a half years after his election as the first mayor of the Left in Schleswig-Holstein, Hartmut Jensen from Schwabstedt in North Frisia resigned from his position.

As a justification, the 60-year-old drew a historical comparison at the community council meeting on Thursday.

Jensen said he was reminded of the end of the Streibl era (Max Streibl, CSU / 1993): he would do anything to counter a mask scandal or an “amigo affair” at the local level, ”he justified his decision.

"I will never support machinations for the benefit of individuals."

The background was a dispute between Jensen and the majority of community representatives over the purchase of building land.

Among other things, the municipality waived a guarantee at an early stage.

The Nordfriesland district and the Nordsee-Treene office had previously unanimously advised against returning the guarantee “urgently”.

Jensen had steered the fortunes of around 1,350 people from Schwabstedt since summer 2018, together with the SPD, CDU and the electoral community.

According to his own statements, he resigned as mayor on December 31, 2020.
