Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - Thousands of workers in the metal and electrical industry in Stuttgart used a human chain to advertise their collective bargaining demands.

According to IG Metall, around 6,000 people took part in the warning strike action on Thursday.

According to the union, the chain - Corona-compliant with masks and distance - led about three kilometers from Feuerbach to Zuffenhausen.

IG Metall has been calling for warning strikes in the industry since the beginning of March to put pressure on employers.

In the fifth round of the current collective bargaining negotiations, both sides came closer for the first time on Wednesday.

IG Metall is demanding, among other things, four percent more money - either in the form of wage increases or as at least partial compensation if a company reduces working hours in a crisis.

The employers' association Südwestmetall rejects this and instead calls for special collective bargaining benefits to be cut.
