Magdeburg (dpa / sa) - In the corona pandemic, more insured persons are asking their health insurance company for relief from the contributions.

“In principle, we can see a corona effect in 2020.

We have increased inquiries from self-employed and freelancers whose sales have declined in the wake of the corona pandemic, "said a spokesman for the AOK Saxony-Anhalt when asked.

The health fund has therefore been offering its policyholders individual solutions since March 2020.

It is possible to reduce the monthly contribution burden or to defer contributions.

How high the number of cases is cannot be determined.

The Techniker Krankenkasse (TK) also notes that the pandemic is having a significant impact on requests for deferral, for example from voluntarily insured self-employed.

Nationwide there was an increase of 70 percent in 2020.

A steep rise at the height of the first corona wave in April 2020 was clearly visible.

At the end of the year, the number of deferrals approached the previous year's level again.

"From our point of view, the economic aid provided and, on the other hand, also installment payment agreements have certainly contributed to this development," said TK.

According to its own information, TK does not collect separate evaluations for individual federal states.

"We assume, however, that Saxony-Anhalt is in the federal trend here," said the head of the TK regional representative, Steffi Suchant.

Barmer country manager Axel Wiedemann said: “Due to the corona pandemic, there are of course inquiries, as there has been a slump in profits for the self-employed.

In particular, at the end of March 2020, December 2020 and January 2021, customers turned to us more often when they had payment difficulties. "

However, there was no significant increase in deferrals for the self-employed during the entire pandemic.

«We have primarily reduced the premium for corona-related slumps in profit.

Compared to 2019 and 2020, however, the deferral rate for the self-employed increased by just under seven percent, ”explained Wiedemann.
