Chemnitz (dpa / sn) - The city of Chemnitz has banned two demonstrations planned for Saturday in the city center.

It is about a rally by opponents of the Corona policy and a planned counter-demo under the motto "Chemnitz remains unconventional".

The current infection situation with a seven-day incidence of over 200 and almost completely occupied Covid intensive care beds in the hospitals in the region speak against the planned meetings from the city's point of view, as stated in a statement on Thursday evening.

The planned rally by opponents of the Corona measures had been registered by the Chemnitz Alliance under the motto "Truth - Freedom - Peace";

with up to 1000 participants at the Karl Marx Monument.

The Alliance of Chemnitz and other organizations called for the demonstration "Chemnitz remains free of lateral thinking - for a society based on solidarity".

Up to 500 participants were registered.
