A rare Van Gogh from his Parisian period was sold for 13 million euros (including fees) on Thursday at an auction in Paris, a "record for the artist in France," Sotheby's announced.

Dated 1887, painted during Vincent van Gogh's two short years in Paris, "Street scene in Montmartre" was listed in catalogs (in black and white photos), but had never been exhibited.

The table was estimated between 5 and 8 million euros.

It had been kept for a century by the same French family.

"It's a great adventure for the French market, which has not seen a Vincent van Gogh painting of this quality for a very long time", greeted masters Claudia Mercier and Fabien Mirabaud, at the origin of this rediscovery.

The Dutch painter's last work, auctioned off, "Plowman in a Field" (1889), reached $ 81 million in 2017 at Christie's in New York.

In London, is also offered for sale Thursday a portrait by Picasso dating from 1941 of the photographer Dora Maar, whom he represented, seated in an armchair.

The painting is estimated at between 6.5 and 8.5 million pounds, as is a triptych in spring tones by Briton David Hockney, one of the most expensive living artists in the world.
