Doctors can still prescribe an antibody test, for the purpose of mapping immunity or when conducting studies.

However, the self-booking through Vårdguiden 1177, which can be done today, will end at the turn of the month.

According to Region Sörmland, this is due to several reasons.

At the end of February, the Swedish Public Health Agency stated that antibody testing at the individual level is in most cases of limited value.

This is because it is now known that most people who have either had covid-19 or received a vaccine develop antibodies.

The regions are not replaced

This led to Sweden's municipalities and regions, together with the government, deciding to phase out the self-booking of the antibody test.

From the first of April, the regions will no longer receive compensation from the state for this.

- Regardless of whether you have antibodies or not, you should follow the recommendations that exist so the value for the medical part of the antibody test is much less right now, which is one of the reasons for the recommendation not to offer it as widely, says Magnus Johansson, responsible for the vaccination program in Region Sörmland.
