Chemnitz (AP) - Bundesliga basketball team Niners Chemnitz has found its way back on the road to success.

After three defeats, the team of coach Rodrigo Pastore won the game against Basketball Löwen Braunschweig on Wednesday with 87:83 (35:50).

The best Niners throwers were George King (25 points) and Marcus Thornton (19).

With the eighth win of the season, the Saxons have taken the next step towards relegation.

The Saxons started the game with concentration and were quickly 7-0 in the lead (3rd).

The Pastore team then went through a long period of weakness with many technical errors and ball losses.

Above all, the people of Chemnitz found no means against the zone defense of Lower Saxony.

Braunschweig pulled away after a 21-0 run to 28:11 (9th).

After a balanced second part of the game, the Niners started their first attempt to catch up in the third quarter.

With a transformed three, Dominique Johnson reduced the gap to two points in the 27th minute (58:60).

The Niners could not use the momentum at first and fell back significantly at the beginning of the final quarter.

But the Pastore team showed their morale and fought their way back again.

Thornton converted two free throws to a 78-77 lead (36th).

In the final phase, the Chemnitz team cleverly brought their narrow lead to the finish.
