March 24, 2021 "AstraZeneca has submitted a formal request and additional data" for the authorization of the Halix plant in the Netherlands.

"The EMA is moving forward with a rapid assessment ahead of the EU marketing authorization update with an accelerated procedure this week. If the path goes as planned, we hope to see deliveries from this site as early as this month. ".

Thus the EU Commissioner for Health, Stella Kyriakides.

"It has always been AstraZeneca's responsibility - he explains - to request that the plants be covered by an authorization and to submit all the necessary data".

India blocks exports

Meanwhile, India has temporarily suspended exports of the AstraZeneca vaccine produced by the Serum Institute of India (Be) to meet domestic demand as coronavirus cases continue to rise in the country.

The decision will primarily affect the Covax Facility, the fair vaccine distribution initiative supported by Gavi and WHO, jeopardizing the supply of doses in more than 180 countries.

Among the recipients of the supplies, the United Kingdom, which already risks stricter controls by the EU on the export of doses produced in India, has received only half of the 10 million doses ordered from the SII, increasing concern about the possible slowing down your immunization schedule.

Although the announcement came only today, according to the Indian Foreign Ministry website, vaccine exports have been stopped since last Thursday to allow the country to expand its vaccination program.

"Everything else has taken a back seat, at least for the moment - said a government source quoted by the Guardian - No exports, nothing until the situation in India stabilizes. The government will not take such a great risk at the moment. which so many in India need to be vaccinated. "
