Erfurt (dpa / th) - The diocese of Erfurt wants to celebrate services at Easter with a limited number of participants, but at the same time promotes services that are broadcast on radio, television or the Internet.

The diocese, to which Eichsfeld also belongs, announced on Wednesday that worship services in the churches will be invited within the framework of the strict requirements for protection against infection and depending on the incidence numbers in the districts and urban cities.

At the same time, the diocese leadership recommends that people “take responsibility to carefully weigh up whether they should register to attend church services”, as stated in a letter from Vicar General Raimund Beck to the pastors.

The past months have shown that the infection protection concepts for church services are effective.

But beyond the services in the churches, possibilities should be examined "to celebrate the Holy Holy Days and Easter days spiritually in a different way or to take advantage of digital services."

Bishop Ulrich Neymeyr added that the celebration of Easter Vigil in Erfurt's Mariendom will also be streamed live on the Internet by the MDR (April 3, from 9:30 p.m.).

Further possibilities are to pray at publicly displayed crucifixes or to go praying publicly built stations of the cross as a devotion to the cross.

The resolutions of the federal-state advisory service to contain the corona pandemic at the beginning of the week also included a request to the religious communities to only hold virtual church services at Easter.

The churches reject that.
