Leipzig (AP) - The season in the Northeast Regional Football League is to be canceled.

As the Northeast German Football Association (NOFV) announced on Wednesday evening, the clubs agreed on this decision during a video conference.

The match committee was unanimously asked by the clubs to submit a motion to the NOFV presidium stating the end of the season.

The final decision on this is to be made at the NOFV presidium meeting on April 16.

“A season end is the last thing an athlete wants.

But an early end of this season is certainly the most sensible solution, taking into account the stagnation that has now been in place for months, ”said Marc Arnold, sports director of Chemnitzer FC, in a club announcement.

It also states that following a unanimous vote by the clubs, the current table leader Viktoria Berlin should move up to the 3rd football league.

An official decision by the NOFV is still pending.

"The gaming committee will deal immediately with all open questions, including promotion and relegation for the NOFV men's divisions," said the association.

Due to the corona pandemic and the ongoing availability situation, only 13 match days were played in the current season of the Regionalliga Nordost.

Games have been paused since November 2, 2020.
