24 March 2021 On Monday 2021 - the day in which Dante Alighieri is remembered - this year coincides with an important celebration: the 700th anniversary of his death.

There are many initiatives set up to pay homage to one of the 'fathers' of the Italian language, a point of reference for our literature.

Also because there is always a need for a review according to what emerges from the results of a survey by Skuola.net on 1000 pupils in the last three years of high school.

Many have fallen out on the basic questions about his life and works and even the Divine Comedy.

Dante, who he was

Dante Alighieri was born in Florence between May and June 1265 and died in Ravenna between 13 and 14 September 1321. One out of 5 students, however, placed in front of a list of cities - not correctly indicated the place of birth.

Many more (45%) those who have not been able to say where he died and is buried.

Nothing to do with its historical location: only 52% place it at the turn of 1200 and 1300. For one student out of 4 Dante is known as The Divine, the Poet, the Genius and not as the Supreme Poet.

A good 22% to the question `` What was the name of Dante's muse? '' Confused Beatrice with Boccaccio's Fiammetta or Petrarca's Laura, but also with Leopardi's Silvia).

On the Divine Comedy, only 6 out of 10 students reported the exact structure, divided into 3 'cantiche' (Inferno, Purgatorio and Paradiso) divided, in turn, into 'songs'.

Definitely fewer (1 out of 2) those who remember the precise number of 'songs' (100 and not 99, as many think).

About a fifth (17%) even took away from Virgil the role of guide in the journey to the underworld.

But it is on the characters that populate the text that, for most of the students, it is late at night: just 1 out of 3 identified Giotto as the name not present in Hell (the largest slice oriented itself on Mohammed, who instead 'is).

The pupils were then invited to tell the most sensational blunders heard during lessons and interrogations.

The result?

Virtually everyone composed the '' Divine Comedy '': Homer, Virgil, even Pirandello.

So what did the 'Supreme Poet' write?

Hold on tight: there are those who replied '' Romeo and Juliet ''.

For some, however, the '' Comedy '' was composed '' in memory of Dante, after his death ''.

Someone else would have claimed with impunity that it is the '' story of his life '', basically a biography.

There are those who have replaced Pope Boniface VIII with Pope Bergoglio and those who have added a fourth canticle: the Earth.

But the most creative of all is a boy who tried to actualize, perhaps too much, the relationship between the poet and his muse: for him '' Dante was friendzoned by Beatrice ''.
