In 2020, 25 different companies in healthcare lost their licenses, which is the highest number since IVO was founded in 2013.

According to IVO, the increase is due to new legislation coming into force on 1 January 2019, which gave IVO increased opportunities for ownership and management review and new requirements for the businesses to meet in order to be deemed appropriate.

- Part of the new legislation is about the businesses being able to show that they have insight into the business they are to conduct, you should not just have a degree, says Anette Nilsson, unit manager IVO.

According to IVO, it is the stricter legislation that is now yielding results in the form of more revoked permits.

Most assistance companies

Among the businesses that had their permits revoked were most assistance companies.

- Försäkringskassan pays large sums for assistance every year and this means that there may be an area where actors who are not suitable also enter.

Several of the activities that have had their permits revoked have attracted the attention of various media.

All over the country

Companies have been stopped in a number of places in the country, including in Örebro, where IVO withdrew the permit with reference to lack of suitability on the part of the owner who was convicted of a serious contribution violation and issued a business ban.

Another example is HVB Väst, where SVT in January 2020 told how one should have behaved threateningly towards a girl.

The male staff allegedly spat at and shouted at the girl in question, accusations which, according to the company, were investigated internally.

SVT nyheter Småland has examined the private care home Rosenhill care and care which received extensive criticism from IVO.

The criticism described serious misconduct in the nursing home, it was about sexual abuse among the residents, smelly premises and major shortcomings in the handling of medicines.

Rosenhill presented several changes, but IVO eventually withdrew the permit.

During the spring, SVT investigated welfare fraud linked to assistance fraud.
