Mainz (dpa / lrs) - The health authorities in Rhineland-Palatinate reported 839 new corona infections on Wednesday.

8011 people in the country are currently infected with the Sars-CoV-2 virus (as of 2.10 p.m.), as the state investigation office announced.

The number of patients who died with or from the virus rose by 9 to 3,285.

The so-called seven-day incidence, i.e. the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the past 7 days, was 84.1 on Wednesday in all of Rhineland-Palatinate.

This is the highest level since January 29th.

A week ago it was 66.0, two weeks ago it was 48.0.

The highest incidence is in the Altenkirchen district in the northern Westerwald with 174.7.

This is followed by the district of Neuwied (161.9), the city of Ludwigshafen (159.6) and the city of Speyer (132.5).

Of the state's 36 districts and cities, 10 are above an incidence of 100 and 7 are below a value of 50. The district of Bernkastel-Wittlich reports the lowest incidence with 28.4.

In the state capital Mainz, the value is 67.3.

The pandemic began in Rhineland-Palatinate at the end of February 2020 with a positive test in Koblenz.

Since then, 111,766 people have been proven to have been infected with Sars-CoV-2 in the state.
