The total turnout in the referendum on Västerås Airport tentatively lands at 37.7 percent.

Many, including the city's politicians who had been in favor of a closure, had wanted a turnout of around 50% in order for the result to be considered clear.

But already the day after the preliminary result of the referendum was presented, both the Liberals and the Social Democrats announced that those who previously wanted to close the airport, are turning on the issue due to the result of the vote.

78.2 percent of voters voted NO to the closure.

- They simply do not want to appear as bad democrats.

Now there is a result in the referendum and it is very difficult and very challenging to try to go to the polls and question it in some way, says Joakim Johansson.

Is it whaling even?

- Well, but at least electoral strategic thinking.
