Hamburg (dpa / lno) - The Hamburg Towers succeeded in a surprise in the basketball league.

Coach Pedro Calles' team defeated German champions Alba Berlin with 90:75 (49:50) on Tuesday evening and improved to sixth place in the table with their 14th win of the season.

The best towers throwers were Kameron Taylor and Terry Allen with 21 points each.

The decision in favor of Hamburg was made around four and a half minutes before the end, when Allen sank a three-way throw and then converted a free throw to 84:71 because of a foul.

After that, the hosts, where only ten professionals could play, kept calm and finally came to the clear success against the favorites.

The Towers had already worked out a 30:20 tour in the first quarter, but also gave it back due to some lack of concentration.

Thanks to a subsequent 10-0 series, the Hanseatic League stayed in the game until the break and built on their strong performance after the break.

Already on Saturday, Hamburg expect the next top opponent at Bayern Munich.
