Berlin (dpa / bb) - After a brutal attack against a federal police officer in civilian clothes, an arrest warrant has been issued against the alleged main culprit in Berlin.

The 41-year-old was in custody, the prosecutor announced on Tuesday.

He is accused of dangerous bodily harm.

The man had already been convicted of similar offenses.

On the afternoon of March 10th, five men are said to have targeted the officer they had seen in uniform in Berlin-Köpenick.

The main suspect is said to have played a key role in circling the officer for no apparent reason, beating him and kicking him.

According to the police, the police state security had initially determined.

This department takes on cases in which a political background is suspected.

A spokesman for the public prosecutor's office said that hatred of police officers was a possible motive.

Three other alleged thugs are known by name, the fifth not yet.

According to police and prosecutors, the group is said to have hit, kicked and seriously injured the 29-year-old.

The men are said to have observed, recognized and insulted the police officer, who was no longer on duty, as he was leaving his apartment.

The attackers are said to have surrounded their victim and pulled a piece of clothing over his head before beating him up.

The federal police officer yelled for help, whereupon the perpetrators fled.

The attacked was able to hold the 41-year-old suspect until the police arrived.

The federal police officer came to a hospital with injuries to his head, torso and legs.

The Berlin Police Union (GdP) condemned the attack as an “incredibly perfidious act”.

Criminals did not even shy away from visiting police officers in their own place of residence, it was said.
