Trier (dpa / lrs) - In one case they blew up an ATM, in three other cases the attempt remained: Two men were sentenced to three and four years in prison before the Trier district court.

The Trier district court announced on Tuesday.

The deeds happened between May and July 2020 in Hillesheim in the Vulkaneifel, Bernkastel-Kues on the Moselle, Königswinter near Bonn and Antweiler in the Ahrweiler district.

In none of the cases did they steal money.

When the ATM was blown up using gas in Hillesheim, the safe did not open.

According to the police, the property damage amounted to 100,000 euros.

In Antweiler they were caught by the police in the act.

The judgments are not yet final.

According to the State Office of Criminal Investigation in Rhineland-Palatinate, there were 35 blasting attacks on ATMs in 2020, more than ever before.

In 2019 there were 22 in the statistics, in 2018 there were 26.
