It's about the big questions again.

The NATO foreign ministers have been sitting together in Brussels headquarters on Tuesday despite the Corona crisis.

The new US Secretary of State Antony Blinken is also there for the first time.

"We want to revive the alliance to make sure it is strong and effective," says Blinken.

The debate in the tap-proof meeting room initially revolves around Afghanistan - with no result whatsoever.

Item two on the agenda is one of NATO boss Jens Stoltenberg's favorite topics: the reform of the military alliance and a new “strategic concept”.

Buzzwords from NATO jargon are buzzing around the room: expansion of joint funding, maximizing resilience, NATO 2030, coordination of capabilities and NATO's global orientation.

Finally, China also falls under this last point.

“We always have the subject in the back of our minds,” says a senior diplomat.

In the back of your mind?

In any case, China is just a footnote this afternoon that is being postponed.
