Potsdam (dpa / bb) - The corona lockdown in Brandenburg is to be extended to April 18.

The cabinet agreed on this after the federal-state conference on the corona restrictions, the state chancellery announced on Tuesday.

The situation has clearly worsened since the beginning of March, said Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke (SPD) as a justification.

"That's why we had to take back the first opening steps as part of the 100 series emergency brake last week."

Overloading the health system must be prevented.

The Berlin Senate agreed on Tuesday to extend the lockdown in the capital until April 24th.

Woidke again appealed to citizens to continue avoiding travel that is not absolutely necessary.

In order to avoid the spread of the corona virus, especially after vacation trips, a corona test should be carried out before the return flight, said the head of government.

"We cannot allow the virus - possibly even with the dangerous Brazilian mutation - to be imported from vacation areas to Brandenburg."
