Today, Tuesday, the city of Benghazi, eastern Libya, a delegation representing the National Unity Government headed by Abdul Hamid Al-Dabaiba arrived to complete the process of receiving the so-called Interim Government headed by Abdullah Al-Thinni.

For years, Libya was suffering from a split in its institutions before the Dabaiba government assumed its duties on March 10, as there was an internationally recognized legitimate government based in the capital, Tripoli, and another in the east headed by Al-Thinni.

A source in Benghazi told Anadolu Agency that the delegation representing the new government includes Hussein Attiya Al-Qatrani, Ramadan Boujenah, two deputy prime ministers, and a group of ministers (he did not mention them).

He added that the delegation would receive power from the government of Thinni, which is supported by the Tobruk Assembly, without providing further details.

Tasks and delivery

And last Tuesday, Dabaiba took over the government's duties from the President of the Presidency Council of the Government, Fayez al-Sarraj, at the Prime Ministry headquarters in Tripoli.

On February 5, the Forum for Political Dialogue, under the auspices of the United Nations, elected a unified executive authority, which includes a government headed by Dabaiba and a presidential council headed by Muhammad al-Manfi, to lead the country to parliamentary and presidential elections scheduled for December 24.

Libyans hope that the unified authority will contribute to ending years of armed conflict, as a result of the struggle of the forces of retired Major General Khalifa Haftar, to the internationally recognized government, over legitimacy and authority in the oil-rich country.

Meanwhile, a source in the Presidency Council said that the exile will go to Paris on his first foreign visit.

Virtual meeting

This comes at a time when the United Nations Support Mission in Libya called today the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum to hold a virtual meeting Friday to inform them of the latest political developments.

This came through a message from the UN mission to the members of the Forum for Political Dialogue.

After years of armed conflict, the crisis is witnessing a breakthrough in the recent period after the Libyan parties were able to ratify a unified transitional authority that took office on March 16.
