Schwerin (dpa / mv) - In anticipation of increasing vaccine deliveries, Health Minister Harry Glawe (CDU) has called on districts and urban districts to utilize the capacities in their vaccination centers and to increase them if necessary.

"The aim is to inoculate the vaccine quantities directly to those entitled," said Glawe in a message distributed on Tuesday.

Recently there had been criticism because the vaccination rate in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania had fallen noticeably behind that of other federal states.

The Ministry of Health then restricted stocks for the second vaccinations in order to allow more first vaccinations.

According to Glawes, family doctors will gradually be included in the corona vaccinations from Thursday.

The allocation of vaccines is regulated.

"The Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians itself determines to which doctors the vaccination doses will be distributed in the area," said the Minister.

For the first batch, however, there are only 3000 doses available this week.

First, doctors and practice staff should be vaccinated to protect against infection.

According to Glawe, the 1,700 vaccinators nationwide include general practitioners as well as specialists, such as ENT doctors, who complained on Monday that the Ministry of Health had forgotten them.

As the minister further said, 190,125 vaccine doses from the manufacturer Biontech, 67,200 from Astrazeneca, and 21,600 from Moderna have so far arrived in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

Of these almost 280,000 cans, according to the data from the Robert Koch Institute, almost 200,000 have already been used.

The state can count on a further 95,000 vaccine doses by the end of March, with a total of 300,000 for April. In order to achieve the targeted vaccination rate of around 70 percent, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania needs around 2.2 million doses for first and second vaccinations.
