  • Germany Merkel tries to stop the avalanche of German tourists to the Balearic Islands before the new covid passport

Germany will force all travelers to take

a negative PCR test when arriving in the country

from anywhere in the world, even if it is not considered a risk area, the central government and the 16 federal states decided on Monday.

German Chancellor

Angela Merkel

and regional leaders made this decision in

a difficult meeting of more than 11 hours

in which restrictions on public life and economic activity have been prolonged and tightened due to the negative evolution of the third wave of the pandemic.

The decision on travel from abroad is related to the controversy surrounding the Easter holidays in Mallorca, the demand for which had skyrocketed after the German authorities removed the Balearic Islands from the list of risk areas, which eliminated the obligation to submit a PCR test and quarantine.

Strict confinement during Easter

Likewise, the German country will redouble and tighten its restrictions on public life and economic activity

between April 1 and 6,

extending the Holy Week holidays, to try to stop the third wave of the pandemic.

Most

shops will close and religious services will be canceled

at Easter, from April 1 to 5, thus reinforcing the restrictions in force in Germany.

The

meetings and meals to the outdoors is prohibited from 1 to 5 April.

Only grocery stores will be able to open on the 3rd.

At the meeting, it was also agreed to extend all measures against the pandemic until April 18.
