Brazil demands respect
”: such is the tone of
this open letter
, sometimes indignant in tone.
"
The country has had enough of off-the-cuff ideas, foolish words, wrong or late actions
," say jumbled up big bankers, former finance ministers, former central bank presidents and economists from all sides.
Alarm signal
Bankers are usually rather quiet, but
the gravity of the situation
has led them to sound the alarm bells.
Former Finance Minister Rubens Ricupero rejects the Bolsonarist argument that it is better to
protect the economy
than to adopt restrictive measures:
“
The importance of these documents is that they show that Bolsonaro's central argument is a fallacious one, that there is a false dilemma between fighting the pandemic and recovering from the economy.
They are two sides of the same currency.
If we want to restore the economy, we must put all the effort, all the priority in the fight against the pandemic
”, explains in French, the one who occupied the finance post in 1994.
Bolsonaro, a hindrance
According to the signatories,
far-right President Jair Bolsonaro
is an obstacle to
the fight against the pandemic
