Hanover (dpa / lni) - Lower Saxony's Prime Minister Stephan Weil (SPD) has sworn the population to an even harder lockdown over Easter.

"A short but consistent phase of standstill can break and dampen the dynamics of the wave of infections," said Weil after the federal-state resolutions on the corona crisis on Tuesday night.

"It's about limiting the level of infection until the test strategy takes effect."

Weil appealed to the people to observe the restrictions to an unprecedented extent.

«Please let us take this approach together.

Please refrain from direct encounters over Easter, please refrain from any mobility that is not absolutely necessary, ”said Weil.

"I see the hard lockdown over Easter as a break in the grueling spiral of ever new closings and tentative easing."

At the same time, Weil pointed out that Lower Saxony had prevailed in the federal-state consultations with its idea of openings in retail combined with rapid tests.

“At the same time, as part of model projects, targeted testing is to open up access to retail and gastronomy, as well as to cultural and sporting events.”

Current negative tests could create safe zones in which people should take advantage of offers without fear.

"Tests thus help to exercise freedoms again."

The price for all of this is the hard Easter lockdown.
