One inquiry acquitted Nicola Sturgeon, the other stated that she did not tell the truth to Parliament.

But that criticism is not serious enough to convict her.

And Tuesday's vote of no confidence in the Scottish Parliament Holyrood was already doomed to failure after the Green Party announced it intended to back Sturgeon.

So the hard-pressed prime minister can breathe a sigh of relief.

At least for now.

The promenade victory hangs loose

Never before in her more than six years as Scotland's Prime Minister has Nicola Sturgeon been as pressured as she is now.

The criticism hangs like a shadow over her as she now joins the election campaign ahead of the parliamentary elections on May 6.

And what was long considered an upcoming walking victory for the nationalist party SNP is no longer a matter of course.

The latest opinion polls show that support for the SNP has decreased recently.

Not remarkably much, but still.

The SNP, led by Nicola Sturgeon, needs to win the election with a clear and distinct majority if the party is to succeed in its overall goal;

to hold a new referendum on independence.

Just a few days ago, the Scottish Government presented a bill that would pave the way for a new independence vote.

This means that such a theory could theoretically take place before the end of 2023 if the government gets what it wants.

But it's a long way there.

For the resistance is formidable.

A fateful choice for the British Union

The British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has repeatedly made it clear that he does not intend to allow a new referendum on independence for Scotland.

And without his approval, nothing will happen.

But many believe that a convincing election victory for the SNP would make it harder for Boris Johnson to say no.

So it is not possible to stress enough how important this choice is;

for the SNP, for Nicola Sturgeon and for the survival of the British Union.

Boris Johnson's worst nightmare is likely to be known as the prime minister who split the union.

And Prime Minister Nicola Sturgeon's recent Calvary Walk strengthens Boris Johnson's cause.

Because even if she now gives everything she has to win the upcoming election, she is weakened.

This means that the struggle for independence is also weakened.

The parliamentary elections on May 6 could be a thriller.

And the election campaign is likely to be both dirty and tough.
