Burgwedel (dpa) - In the corona pandemic, the buying behavior of drugstore customers has changed significantly, according to entrepreneur Dirk Roßmann.

"Health items such as clinical thermometers exploded, including self-medication such as vitamin supplements," said the head of the Rossmann drugstore chain of the German Press Agency in Burgwedel near Hanover.

“What fell sharply was all of the decorative cosmetics.

Apparently you don't make yourself beautiful with mascara and lip gloss that often when you have to stay at home. "

However, the head of the company does not see the drugstores as the Corona winner.

You don't brush your teeth more than usual in Corona times, said the 74-year-old.

"Toilet paper also stagnated - people no longer buy throughout the year just because they hoard in between."

Roßmann admitted that his company had benefited from the fact that other suppliers of toys and stationery had to close due to the pandemic.

"But I don't think we should be ashamed of it," he said.

"We sponsor so many aid programs and the money has to be earned."

In addition, it would hardly have been organizationally feasible to remove such articles at short notice.

This would also have frustrated the customers.

The Rossmann company has more than 4200 branches across Europe.

It was able to increase its turnover further last year, it was most recently around 10.3 billion euros.
