Dresden (dpa) - Saxony's Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer has curbed expectations of further easing in the corona crisis in front of the federal-state switch.

“Within two weeks, the number of infected Saxons doubled.

As bitter as it is, we have to slow down this development, ”said the CDU politician on Monday on Facebook.

There are currently around 900 hospital beds with Covid 19 patients in the Free State, and the head of government named 1,300 inpatient corona patients as a "critical mark".

In order not to get into a situation like in December and the beginning of January, it is crucial to take countermeasures “in good time and in a targeted manner”.

On Monday afternoon, the federal government and the states want to agree on how to proceed in the corona crisis.

In an interview with “MDR Sachsen”, Kretschmer also spoke out in favor of comprehensive rapid tests in order to avoid a permanent lockdown.

The use of shops, restaurants and fitness studios should therefore generally be linked to a negative rapid test.

“That is the hygiene concept in 2021,” says Kretschmer.

According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the incidence increased further compared to the previous day - from 145.2 on Sunday to 158.8 on Monday.

The value indicates the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within a week.

Nationwide, the incidence was 107.3.

Of the 13 regions in Saxony, only the city of Leipzig was below an incidence of 100 (84.5) on Monday.
