The Houthi group has made field progress in the ongoing battles in the northern governorate of Ma'rib.

At a time when the Security Council called for a ceasefire, clashes renewed in Taiz.

Local and military sources said that violent battles are taking place in the outskirts of the Hilan Mountains in the Serwah district, northwest of the city of Ma'rib, following a continuous attack by the Houthis two days ago against the Yemeni army positions.

The sources confirmed that the Houthis had taken control of two army posts during their attack, which began a counterattack to regain them.

An army statement said yesterday, Thursday, that it had set up a military ambush that killed dozens of Houthi militants in the Hailan area, without mentioning the army's losses in the confrontations.

Military sources stated that the Saudi-Emirati coalition aircraft launched raids targeting Houthi sites and vehicles in the Sarwah district, west of the Ma'rib governorate.

Meanwhile, the US special envoy to Yemen Timothy Lenderking discussed with European partners the urgent need to end the attack on Marib, so that all parties can focus on peace efforts and humanitarian aid.

The US State Department’s Middle East Affairs Department said - in a tweet on Twitter - that Lenderking discussed joint efforts to address the humanitarian crisis and bring peace to Yemen with the Dutch Deputy Foreign Minister and the Middle East official at the German Foreign Ministry.

Taiz front

On the other hand, clashes renewed in Taiz between the Yemeni army and the Houthi militia in the eastern front of the city of Taiz and the al-Arbaeen front in the north of the city.

The Taiz military axis had announced the completion of control and securing of the strategic Jabal Jasha, and a number of sites in its vicinity in the Haifan district, southeast of the governorate, in addition to the killing of 4 Houthis in those confrontations.

The Taiz axis added in a statement that it repelled a Houthi attack in the Madarat area, west of the city, and damaged a Houthi military vehicle.

Earlier, the army regained a number of heights in the Maqabneh front, west of Taiz, and on the road linking Taiz and the governorates of Lahj and Aden, and also shot down two Houthi drones there, according to military data.

Call the Security Council

In this regard, the Security Council called on all parties to work with the UN envoy to Yemen Martin Griffiths without preconditions, in order to achieve a ceasefire and reach a comprehensive political settlement.

This came in a statement issued unanimously by the Council, during which it called on the Houthis to stop the escalation in the Ma'rib Governorate (north) immediately, warning that this exposes the lives of one million displaced people to grave danger.

He expressed concern that the lack of progress in the peace process could be taken advantage of by what he called "terrorists in Yemen".

In its statement, the Security Council also expressed concern about the deteriorating economic and humanitarian situation in Yemen, stressing the importance of facilitating humanitarian aid and the arrival of fuel ships to the port of Hodeidah (west), which is controlled by the Houthis.

In turn, the Yemeni government welcomed the statement of the Security Council, stressing its positive response to all calls for calm.

"We welcome the statement issued by the Security Council condemning the Houthi escalation, the use of children in Marib, and the attacks on Saudi Arabia," the Yemeni Foreign Ministry said on Twitter.
