One of her strongest memories is from when she visited a crime scene the day after a shooting of a young guy.

There she stood as a lone adult with five of his best friends who had been questioned by the police that morning.

- It's the saddest moment I've been through, it was so lonely.

There was no one from the community, no adult, no one based on their roles was there.

They were completely crushed and none of them were ever caught by any of our systems, says Camila Salazar Atías, who is also involved in a criminal policy association for the Social Democrats.

Many consequences

Camila Salazar Atías is, among other things, head of the knowledge area at Fryshuset in Stockholm.

She believes that there are several risks in not getting the right support after a relative has been the victim of an act of violence, something that many she has met have expressed.

- You do not feel that society supports you, that you are not important, or that your son's death is not as important as someone else's.

That it owes its own death.

You may lose confidence in society, but also in the belief in democracy, that we are all equally worthy and entitled to the same type of help.

There are consequences at many different levels that are harmful to our society.
