  • The prefecture recently presented a project to widen the A63 between Bordeaux and Salles, by resorting to an independent concession that would integrate the A660.

  • The elected officials of the Arcachon basin and the Val de l'Eyre have already taken a stand against the idea of a toll.

  • The elected officials of Bordeaux Métropole have also just expressed their disagreement, unless free access for local traffic is introduced.

The project of a toll on the A63 motorway between Bordeaux and Arcachon is decidedly unanimous… against him.

After the elected officials of the Arcachon basin and the Val de l'Eyre, it is the turn of Bordeaux Métropole to join the game.

The Bordeaux metropolitan area has indeed reacted, following the letter from the prefecture of February 2, concerning the development of the A63 into 2x3 lanes and the tolling of the infrastructure.

"The elected officials are opposed to the inhabitants of the metropolis and the Girondins being called upon to travel, and therefore reject the payment of a toll on this route which would hamper trade between the metropolis and neighboring territories, and would generate the search for smart routes that would impact traffic in the municipalities of the metropolis.

"

"Pricing exclusively assigned to heavy goods vehicle and transit traffic"?

The project presented by the prefecture aims to "upgrade the section of A63 between the Bordeaux ring road and Salles to 2x3 lanes, by resorting to an independent concession which would integrate the A660" which extends to Arcachon.

This project provides for "the expansion of the infrastructure, the possibility of having a dedicated lane for vehicles with high occupancy rates and" free flow "toll technology without a physical toll barrier.

"The prefecture adds that" different toll system scenarios are being considered.

"

"If the assumption of the setting up to 2x3 lanes and the pricing were however retained", continues Bordeaux Métropole, the elected officials propose to the State to set up "a pricing exclusively assigned to the heavy goods traffic and transit" as well as a “toll modulation strategy intended to make the ring road more fluid and finally free access for local traffic.

"

The council recalls that “the financing of such a project falls on the State which could mobilize the credits of the plan of recovery without having recourse to a concession which would penalize the inhabitants of the Gironde in their personal and professional displacements.

"

Additional lane reserved for public transport and carpooling?

On the project for the passage to 2x3 lanes of the A63, elected officials believe that this "responds to technical consistency" but that it is not "a necessity for metropolitan traffic and daily exchanges with the Girondins territories, the difficulties being increased during weekend and summer traffic… ”

In the event that upgrading to 2x3 lanes would be retained, elected officials ask "that this additional lane be carried out without increasing the current land footprint and be reserved for public transport and vehicles with a high occupancy rate."
