The CDU member of the Bundestag Karin Strenz is dead. She collapsed on the return flight from Cuba to Germany, the spokesman for the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania regional group, Eckhardt Rehberg, told the German press agency on Sunday evening.
The "Bild" newspaper had previously reported on it.
Strenz was 53 years old.
Nothing is yet known about the details of the death.
Strenz is said to have lost consciousness during the flight, reports "Bild".
The crew decided on an unscheduled emergency landing in Dublin.
The background to the trip to Cuba is also still unknown.
Strenz was recently in the context of the Azerbaijan affair within the Union faction in the media focus.
The public prosecutor's office started an investigation in January.
Strenz is said to have received funds from Azerbaijan for lobbying activities and not reported them in good time.
