March 20, 2021 The medical-nursing crews of 118 will also be employed in the intensive mass vaccination campaign.

The Cabinet office of the Emergency Commissioner, Francesco Paolo Figliuolo, wrote to the president of Sis 118, Mario Balzanelli, responding to the proposal to vaccinate the frail and non self-sufficient people at home with the use of self-medications and doctors and nurses off duty, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and even on holidays.

In the letter from the commissioner, the help offered by 118 is taken into account since, it says, "there is the objective of creating a stopping front for the spread of the virus by concentrating on large hubs to ensure the administration of large quantities of vaccines, and it is also necessary to support a more widespread effort to penetrate the territory. In this context, the 118 proposal will be taken into consideration and put into the system with the additional availability received ".

"The 118 crews - explains the president of Sis 118 - represent the best guarantee of safety in the event of significant adverse events. We can vaccinate at home not only elderly subjects with polypathologies, but also patients with neurodegenerative diseases, the disabled, people with neoplastic diseases, all bedridden ".

Not only that: Balzaneli also outlines the availability of 118 "to vaccinate all those who are able to reach the vaccination points within the fixed medical stations (First Intervention Points), within which there are spaces and technical beds. for any short-term clinical monitoring needs ".

The president of the Federation of Medical Orders, Filippo Anelli, intervenes on the subject: "Among the doctors there is a competition for availability and a moving generosity. There are practically 200 thousand vaccinating doctors who have given the widest support. The medical world c 'that's all. But what is missing is a real unitary project in the country that allows us to effectively use both the availability of vaccinators and vaccines ".

And he adds: "To date we do not know what are the models on the basis of which the Regions are being organized. Not only that, we also need to clarify the priorities and who must indicate the names of the citizens who have the priority right to the vaccine. concerns I am a family doctor and I work in Puglia, but so far I have not received a single dose of vaccine to inoculate ".

Italian company system 118 meanwhile announces that by mid-April it will present its new "Guidelines in the strategy of contrasting the territory at Covid-19", also on the basis of the diffusion of the variants.

In particular, there are two indications to combat the infection, the first concerns the protection from the virus, the other the timing of the vaccination campaign.

"Strengthen, particularly in this phase 3, individual protection by making mandatory for all citizens the use of masks that are truly effective in filtering the passage of the virus, that is the Ffp2, and abolishing the use of all the others. Protect the eyes with anti-droplet goggles or visors in all contexts where a safe distance of one meter cannot be maintained (bus, subway, school, work contexts) because the eyes are one of the main ways of contagion ".

SIS 118 also insists on the need to "launch intensive mass vaccination rates".

Balzanelli finally underlines: "I contracted the virus in service, assisting patients in the 118 Covid station at the Moscati hospital in Taranto and developing severe bilateral pneumonia. I didn't have time to recover and Covid took my mother away . Personally, if I am involved, I intend to vaccinate all those who need it for free with a thought of my mother ".
