Since 2014, at least 62 impostors who pretended to be doctors have been exposed in German hospitals and medical practices.

This was the result of a survey by WELT AM SONNTAG among the state police authorities and medical associations.

However, only half of the countries were able to provide data.

Accordingly, the number of white impostors actually exposed could be significantly higher.

Extrapolated to the population of Germany, around 20 fraudsters are likely to be caught per year who pretend to be medical professionals without having completed a degree.

The background to the survey is the trial in Kassel against Meike W., who worked as an anesthetist in Fritzlar for three years without being a doctor.

In about 500 operations in which she initiated the anesthesia, five people died, according to the investigations of the public prosecutor, and twelve others were seriously injured.

Although Meike W. forged a license to practice medicine with the simplest means on her home computer, the fraud was not noticed for a long time.

The defendant has been answerable since January on suspicion of fivefold murder.
