A drone stormed the Athletic Bilbao match against its guest Eibar in the Spanish Football League, carrying a flag containing a message opposing the holding of the 2020 European Championship matches in Bilbao.

Play was stopped in the 68th minute during the match, which ended in a 1-1 draw, when referee Valentin Pizarro Gómez picked up the drone attached to a flag and removed it from the field before the match resumed.

Bilbao is one of 12 cities that have hosted matches in the postponed tournament since last year, and will receive all three of Spain's group matches;

To be the first time that the national team played in the Basque Country since 1967.

The move is opposed by pro-secession groups and political parties who refuse to see Spain play on Basque soil.

There were voices opposing hosting matches in the city with the increased chances of holding the continental championship matches without fans due to the Corona pandemic.
