Düren / Berlin (dpa) - The Berlin Volleys are threatened with the end of the fight for the German volleyball championship in the semifinals.

At the start of the playoff series Best of three, the capital club suffered a sensitive and well-deserved 1: 3 (17:25, 18:25, 25:20, 21:25) defeat at the SWD powervolleys Düren on Saturday.

This means that the Rhinelanders only need one victory to make it to the final.

The second meeting of the two teams will take place on Wednesday in Berlin.

Should an all-important third game be necessary, Düren would be the hosts again next Saturday.

Berlin coach Cedric Enard celebrated his 45th birthday on match day.

But the performance of his team was anything but a gift for him at first.

Düren set the tone in the game from the start.

The hosts made it difficult for their opponents to deal with their opponents, especially with a consistent block defense.

Due to their poor service game and the weak acceptance, the BR Volleys could only react for two sets.

In particular, Düren's Chilean diagonal attacker Sebastian Gevert, 2.04 meters tall, was in great shape.

Even when Enard made several substitutions in the course of the game, the dominance of the hosts did not initially change.

At least in the third round they won, the Berliners showed their qualities to some extent, especially when the substitute Denis Kaliberda enlivened the attacking game.

In the final section, the two teams met at eye level for a long time.

At 19:21 from the point of view of BR Volleys, Dürens Gevert then sank three aces in a row at 19:24.
