Maxhütte-Haidhof (dpa / lby) - A man was almost passed out on the autobahn in the Upper Palatinate for seven kilometers.

The 67-year-old driver drove onto the motorway near Schwandorf and then presumably suffered from hypoglycaemia, the police said on Friday.

Almost unconscious, the man then touched the central barrier several times over a distance of seven kilometers and knocked over several delineator posts on the right side of the lane. Callers reported a "serpentine driver" to the police.

Shortly before a parking lot, the police said he hit the outside guardrail with his vehicle.

Two truck drivers followed the car and deliberately slowed down the traffic and thus secured it.

At the scene of the accident, they would have taken care of the man until the ambulance service arrived.
