Munich / Berlin (dpa) - Before the federal and state vaccination summit, Bavaria's Health Minister Klaus Holetschek (CSU) is calling for a quick nationwide regulation for corona vaccinations by general practitioners.

"The involvement of the medical profession in the standard care would be a strong signal," said the chairman of the conference of health ministers of the German press agency in Munich.

He very much hopes that Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) and the Prime Ministers can come to an agreement on this point in their conference call on Friday.

The vaccination summit was supposed to take place on Wednesday, but was postponed to Friday due to the suspension of the Astrazeneca drug.

After the European Medicines Agency (EMA) confirmed on Thursday that the Astrazeneca vaccine was safe, it should be used again in Germany this Friday - but with a new warning for women under 55 years of age.

In the coming weeks, the shortage of vaccines will remain a problem, said Holetschek.

He very much hope that there will soon be larger quantities and more reliability here.

"We have to see now that the vaccine is also there."

Ultimately, it is only possible to involve general practitioners in the vaccination concept - in Bavaria this should take place from April 1st - if enough vaccine is available so that it can be passed on to both the vaccination centers and practices.

After criticism because of the shortage of quantities and overloaded appointment hotlines, larger quantities of vaccine are expected in the next few months.

In the second quarter, 40.2 million cans from Biontech / Pfizer are expected.

Astrazeneca had previously planned 16.9 million cans.

6.4 million cans of Moderna are planned for this.

In addition, the start of delivery of the drug from Johnson & Johnson, which has now also been approved, is expected to begin in the second half of April.

In order not to slow down the vaccination process any further, the processes would also have to be adjusted accordingly.

"Pandemics and bureaucracy do not understand each other," said Holetschek.

It is therefore important to look carefully at which points can still be removed.
