Berlin / Dresden (dpa) - Your legs are so long that they made it into the “Guinness Book of Records”.

Karl Lagerfeld compared her to Marlene Dietrich.

Peter Lindbergh and Helmut Newton photographed her: 180 centimeters of beauty, a blonde ice queen from Germany.

In the 1990s, Nadja Auermann, along with Claudia Schiffer and Tatjana Patitz, laid out one of the great careers in the fashion business that is reflected in the program “Germany's Next Top Model”.

If girls today dream of photo shoots and the catwalks in New York, Paris or Milan, then it's because of the world of images and the image of the models from back then.

Things have become quieter around Nadja Auermann, but she still occasionally works in front of the camera.

This Friday (March 19th) she will be 50 years old.

The Berliner was discovered by an agent in a café in Charlottenburg.

She moved to Paris in the early 1990s, got a modeling contract from the Elite agency and made it onto the cover of Vogue.

In 1992 she starred in a video by George Michael ("Too Funky"), alongside colleagues such as Linda Evangelista and Eva Herzigová.

It was the supermodel decade.

Auermann is very high up in the world of Prada, Versace and Chanel.

“Glamor a la Dietrich”, wrote the “New York Times” in 1994 when Auermann performed a solo show for Valentino.

Karl Lagerfeld thought she had the versatility of an actress: "She is without a doubt one of the most beautiful women in the world".

When Lagerfeld died in 2019, she praised him as a universal genius, she was infinitely grateful to him: "I owe you so much!"

The two were also connected privately: Lagerfeld was the godfather of their eldest daughter.

As a child, she dreamed of being Chancellor, Auermann told Zeitmagazin in 2015.

But soon she suspected that she wasn't made for it.

But she is still politically interested.

She would never have dreamed that she would do the modeling job for so long.

"However, I am not a person who makes big plans."

In 2004 she had her first leading role as an actress on television, in the ZDF crime thriller “Sleeping Beauty's quiet death”, and in 2018 she played a star designer in the Sat.1 comedy “Discover the Mandy in you”.

Auermann takes a critical look at the fashion industry and dangerous ideals of beauty: Ten years ago, she called for a law against models that were too skinny in the “Bild” newspaper.

As far as private matters are concerned, Auermann tends to keep a low profile.

She has four children with three men and was previously married to the actor Wolfram Grandezka.

After stints in Monte Carlo and Potsdam, she moved to Dresden.

In 2013 she told the “Bunten” about her life there: “We lead a completely normal family life with me as a housewife and mother.”

But she can also still do glamor.

You could see it when she visited the Berlinale in 2019 with her daughter Cosima, who is also a model.

The pictures suggest: Beauty is hereditary.
