Six individuals were arrested by the judicial police of Meaux supported by the research and intervention brigade of Versailles.

The case began in October 2020 when the police noted a sharp increase in complaints of theft of this type of vehicle.

"The great difficulty of this type of investigation is to bring together isolated facts to establish correspondence in order to put an end to the activity of these networks", insists the commissioner Stéphane Guérin, the head of the judicial police of Meaux. .

Little by little, the investigators put together this network made up of several teams: one in charge of thefts thanks in particular to the hacking of the central vehicle system, a second reprogrammed them and made up them, a last organized their transport to Africa.

"Some of these cars were sold for a pittance, 1,000 or 2,000 euros when they were almost new," notes the commissioner.

One convicted man, five others await trial

After several months of investigations, six men, aged 18 to 30 and mostly well known to the police and justice, were arrested Tuesday.

One of them was moreover already imprisoned for another fact when he was taken into custody in this case.

Five of them will be tried on May 7, a sixth, who admitted to having participated in the conveyance of these vehicles, was sentenced Thursday in an appearance procedure on prior admission of guilt.
