Rettenbach am Auerberg (dpa / lby) - Almost two years after a house explosion with two dead in the Allgäu, the investigation into negligent homicide has been discontinued.

"There was no negligent behavior found," said a spokesman for the Kempten public prosecutor.

The residential building in Rettenbach am Auerberg (Ostallgäu district) was destroyed in the explosion in May 2019 after gas leaked from a damaged pipe into the ground on the property - although the house itself was not connected to the supply network.

The focus of the investigation was an excavator driver who was working on the basement of the house in 2013.

In addition, it was about an employee of a private company who, a few days before the explosion, had fixed a fault in the gas pipeline that led across the affected property.

The public prosecutor's office found no evidence of improper behavior in either of the parties involved, the spokesman said.

The investigation had dragged on because it had to be checked what work was being carried out at what time on the property and on the line, it said.

The investigation was originally supposed to be completed in 2019.

A 42-year-old family man and his 7-year-old daughter were killed in the gas explosion.

The then 39-year-old mother was rescued from the rubble of the destroyed house with serious injuries.

The couple's two sons survived because they were in a playground.

The tenant of a granny flat was also not in the house during the explosion.

Debris flew hundreds of meters in the explosion.

As a result, numerous people took part in a fundraising campaign for the victims' families.

The collection was also supported by the Ostallgäu District Office.
