Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - The employers reject the Verdi demand for the upcoming collective bargaining round in the retail trade in the southwest as “completely utopian”.

"This is a completely unrealistic demand from Verdi for the beginning collective bargaining round under pandemic conditions," said the general manager of the Baden-Württemberg trade association, Sabine Hagmann, on Friday.

Verdi is demanding 4.5 percent more money as well as another 45 euros and an increase in training allowances by 100 euros per month.

In addition, a “fixed pension-based minimum wage” of 12.50 euros per hour is required.

In the case of short-time work, companies should also increase the income of their employees - to 100 percent of net earnings.

The association criticized these demands in no way taking into account the current economic situation in the retail sector.

Verdi, in turn, points out that the retail sector as a whole is achieving strong increases in sales and profits, albeit unevenly distributed.

Around 500,000 people are employed in the industry in the southwest.

It is not yet clear when the collective bargaining will begin.
