Halle / Hamburg (dpa / sa) - The credit agency Crifbürgel is expecting a wave of insolvencies in Saxony-Anhalt this year due to the corona pandemic.

The number of company bankruptcies could roughly triple compared to 2020.

A total of 917 company insolvencies are possible, said Crifbürgel managing director Frank Schlein on Friday in Hamburg.

The backlog alone could amount to 466 company insolvencies.

"Due to the Corona crisis, many companies in Germany currently have economic problems," said Schlein.

More than 300,000 companies are currently in financial difficulties.

However, this has not yet been reflected in the insolvency figures.

On the contrary: According to Crifbürgel, only 353 companies filed for bankruptcy in Saxony-Anhalt last year, around 100 fewer than in the previous year.

The main reason for this development is the suspension of the obligation to file for insolvency in combination with the numerous aid packages for the companies.

The effects of the pandemic on the economy would therefore only gradually become fully visible - this year and next, said Schlein.

"Small businesses with fewer than ten employees are particularly affected."

In the opinion of the credit agency, the negative consequences of the corona lockdown and the ongoing economic crisis will only be postponed.

Creditors, i.e. suppliers or landlords, who would have to fear that they would be left with their claims due to bankruptcy and thus not get their money, suffered from this.

According to Crifbürgel, companies from the gastronomy, tourism, entertainment, textile retail and exhibition stand construction sectors are particularly at risk of insolvency.
