March 19, 2021 Until today, the Covid-19 pandemic, according to the Johns Hopkins University database, has caused 121,746,176 infections worldwide, of which at least 2,690,834 have proved lethal.

Compared to yesterday, there was an increase of 550,016 infections and 10,424 deaths.

Infections worldwide in the period of time examined have therefore returned to over half a million, a limit that has rarely been exceeded since the end of January but which now, especially due to the spread of mutated strains of the virus, has been new reached.

At the level of individual nations, the United States remains by far the most affected and has exceeded the threshold of 539 thousand victims (539,663) out of over 29 million and 665 thousand infections ascertained even if by now the adoption of severe containment measures combined with the massive campaign vaccination seem to have pulled the country out of the emergency.

On the contagion front, the ranking (limited to the nations that have exceeded two million cases, eight of which are now over three million) continues with Brazil (11.78 million cases) then with India (11.47 ), Russia (4.42), Great Britain (4.29), France (4.24), Italy (3.30), Spain (3.21), Turkey (2.95 ), Germany (2.63), Colombia (2.31), Argentina (2.22) and Mexico (2.18).

As for the data relating to mortality, Brazil always ranks second behind the US with 287,499 victims, of which 2,724 in yesterday alone, by far the heaviest toll in the world, while in third position finds Mexico which has now passed the threshold of 195 thousand lethalities (196,606).

Again in terms of mortality, behind Mexico is India (159,216) while in fifth position is Great Britain (126,163).

In sixth place Italy (103,855) then Russia (93,824), France (91,833), Germany (74,402) and Spain (72,910).

100 million vaccines administered in the US

At least 1,549 new coronavirus deaths and 60,782 new infections were reported in the United States yesterday.

Over the past week, there have been an average of 54,729 cases per day, representing a decrease of 13% from the average two weeks earlier.

To date, according to the NYT database, more than 29 million and 692 thousand Americans have been infected by Covid, while 539,663 have lost their lives (source Jhu).

The number of infections across the country is steadily decreasing as the pace of vaccination continues to increase.

More than 20% of the population has received at least one dose of one of the authorized anti-Covid serums and yesterday evening President Biden said his administration is on track to reach 100 million doses.

"I am proud to announce that tomorrow (today for the reader), 58 days after the start of our administration, we will have achieved my goal of administering 100 million doses to our fellow Americans," he said from the White House.

"This happens weeks ahead of schedule, despite the unforeseen events we had to face during the winter storms"

India's record of infections: highest since November
