Schwerin (dpa / mv) - According to Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD), Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania will receive more vaccine doses in April than have been given since the start of vaccination at the end of December.

The northeast is to receive 300,000 vaccine doses against the corona virus in the coming month, as Schwesig announced on Friday evening after vaccination consultations from the federal and state governments in Schwerin.

According to the State Office for Health and Social Affairs (Lagus), 188 354 corona vaccine doses have so far been administered in MV.

126,935 people received a first vaccination and 61,419 a second.

As stated in the decision paper, from April 5, more corona vaccinations should be possible in doctors' offices in the northeast.

However, on April 5th is Easter Monday, a start of vaccinations one day later seems more likely.

According to Schwesig, 45,000 of the vaccination doses per week are earmarked for the vaccination centers.

According to a government spokesman, 20,000 vaccine doses are initially planned for doctors' practices per week.

That number is expected to increase during the month.

According to the Ministry of Health, there are around 1,700 general practitioners and specialists across the country who could give vaccinations.

Thus, about 12 vaccinations per practice per week would initially be possible.

Schwesig spoke of around 20 vaccinations that should be possible per practice per week.

According to Schwesig, in a pilot project that has been going on for several weeks in the district of Northwest Mecklenburg, positive experiences have been made with corona vaccinations in medical practices.

She attributed this to short distances for the patients and a high level of trust in the doctor.

According to the Ministry of Health, doctors and specialists should be able to vaccinate their doctors with the Astrazeneca drug from next Thursday.

«It is necessary for the doctors and their staff to have their own protection.

In the first step, the doctors should vaccinate their medical staff and themselves, ”said Health Minister Harry Glawe (CDU).

If doses are left over, they could also be used for the chronically ill and high-risk patients.

The corresponding control for the patients then takes place via the respective doctor's practice.
